Albatros by Phoenix
Albatros, formerly operated by Phoenix Reisen until 2020, was a mid-sized cruise ship originally built in 1973 as the Royal Viking Sea for Royal Viking Line. It featured a traditional ocean-liner design with 10 decks, accommodation for around 830 passengers and 340 crew, and was renowned for its classic elegance and relaxed atmosphere.
The ship measured approximately 205 meters in length and 28,518 gross tons. Retrofits in 1983, 2005, and 2011 modernized its facilities while retaining its vintage charm. Albatros offered amenities such as two main dining rooms, a buffet, several bars and lounges, a pool, fitness center, spa, cinema, and live entertainment venues.
Known for its informal and family-friendly environment, Albatros was popular among German-speaking travelers, with onboard communication primarily in German. The ship sailed diverse itineraries, including Mediterranean cruises, world voyages via both the Panama and Suez Canals, and seasonal repositioning trips.
After Phoenix Reisen ended its charter, Albatros was sold in October 2020 to an Egyptian hotel group and briefly planned as a floating hotel before being scrapped in Alang, India, in mid-2021.
